All Saints’ enjoy writing freedom
All Saints’ have held their very first “Free Write Friday”. As part of their whole school focus on writing this year, opportunities were provided to enable children to apply taught skills whilst writing about a topic and in a genre of their own choice.
Sophie Hoggarth, English lead, launched the event and children were given time to plan and prepare their writing before completing it on the day.
“Enabling the children to have such freedom over their writing content increased engagement. We were all very pleased to see the children apply many taught features, produce sustained writing and most importantly thoroughly enjoy the task,” said Sophie.
One child from each class was then chosen to attend an afternoon tea party as a reward for their fantastic writing efforts. The party was a lovely celebration of writing, said headteacher Laura Jackson. She added: “Children of all ages shared their work together whilst consuming a vast amount of buns!”
The school is planning to carry out this event half termly.
